Tesla Dealership Coming to Golden Valley
The auto maker, Tesla, is coming to Golden Valley. City officials say the company plans to build a new dealership that will specialize in selling and servicing electric vehicles.
“It does align well with the city’s sustainability goals that we’ve been trying to do as a community,” said Golden Valley City Planner Jason Zimmerman.
Tesla is building the new dealership next to the ‘Room & Board’ outlet store, which is just north of Highway 55 near Schaper Park.
The auto maker recently purchased a building that was once home to a manufacturing company at 650 Ottawa Avenue N. Tesla is now in the process of demolishing that building to make way for the new dealership.
Golden Valley officials say the dealership will be 50,000 square feet, but it won’t have the same look as some of the other car lots located in the city.
“Talking with the Tesla representative, they don’t have a traditional kind of process,” Zimmerman said. “It’s appointment only, you order online and just go there to pick it up and do a little test drive. And so, I think they didn’t need to have that freeway visibility, the freeway presence, so this worked well for them,”
City officials say after the current building is demolished, construction will likely begin in the spring. The dealership could be open by spring of 2024.
