Stretch of Highway 169 Fully Closed Through Early Monday
If you usually travel along Highway 169, you’ll want to find an alternate route this weekend.
The highway will be closed in both directions between Interstate 94 in Maple Grove and Interstate 394 in Golden Valley. The closure starts at 10 tonight and runs until 5 a.m. Monday.
The closure is necessary as crews remove the 63rd Avenue bridge over Highway 169 between Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove. MnDOT officials say the bridge was originally built in 1968 and “has deteriorated to a point where it needs to be fully replaced.”
Traffic will be routed around the area using several suggested detours, including I-94, I-494 and I-394.
MnDOT’s website shows 63rd Avenue between Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove will be closed until October as crews replace the bridge.
In addition to a new bridge, MnDOT will extend acceleration lanes to provide vehicles more room to merge onto the busy highway. It will also construct a multi-use trail between Mendelssohn Avenue and Magda Drive.
To the south of that project, MnDOT will also replace the 36th Avenue bridge over Highway 169 between New Hope and Plymouth. That work will begin in mid-June.
