Standout Student: Highview’s Miyana Powell an Inspiration to Others
Standout Student Miyana Powell finished up her coursework at Robbinsdale Academy-Highview this spring. Teachers say she’s know for her caring spirit.
“She is one of those students that’s really taking care of everybody in the school,” said counselor Carmita Hall. “What I really like about her is her ability to inspire other students by being focused and doing her work.”
Hall says Powell keeps an eye out for others, and even alerts teachers when someone needs help.
“I would say she definitely is that mama-bear figure,” said Hall.
Powell says she’s always been that way, both at home and in school.
“I’m always the mom of everything,” said Powell. “I just like helping people.”
Powell says she’s also respectful. She appreciated the smaller class sizes at Highview, and finished up classes there this spring. Powell has big goals to own her own business.
“I plan on starting my own busienss and have a couple of shops, then expand. I want to start my own clothing line,” said Powell.
If her track record at Robbinsdale Academy-Highview is any indication, she’ll focus on achieving those goals and lifting up others all along the way.
“[Miyana] has her goals and talks to me about saying she’s going to do it. She doesn’t just say things, but she acts on it,” said Hall.
