Shortage of Math, Reading Tutors Results in Increased Incentives
Minnesota nonprofit Reading & Math, Inc. announced a stipend increase for tutors in hopes of attracting more applicants to tutor children this school year.
The stipend, or “pandemic pay,” has been increased to $15 an hour. It’s a 20 percent increase that is intended to help make the AmeriCorps program that Reading & Math, Inc. administers more accessible to Minnesotans.
“The need for early literacy programs in reading and early literacy programs in math have exponentially increased in Minnesota due to COVID,” said program manager Suleiman Adan.
The one-time funding to increase the stipend will be effective this school year in an effort to attract candidates. Candidates can apply by Oct. 6.
