Salvation Army Sees Record Demand at Food Shelves
A familiar face to Minnesota hockey fans made his way to Maple Grove on Wednesday to help support a good cause.
Minnesota Wild mascot Nordy was at the Maple Grove Cub to lend a hand with the Salvation Army’s month-long food drive.
Nordy’s appearance is part of the Salvation Army’s ongoing quest to collect nonperishable food to restock the shelves of their nine metro-area food pantries.
The organization reports that Minnesota food shelves received more than 7.5 million visitors last year, which set a new record.
“You think about your gas bill, your electric bill, everything is just so high, but income isn’t necessarily matching that,” said Angel Fields Mitchell, director of marketing for The Salvation Army Northern Division. “It just makes it a little bit tougher, and so we have seen an increase in the number of people that are visiting food shelves throughout the state of Minnesota.”
If people want to help, they can donate food at 75 locations throughout the Twin Cities.
