Rojo Mexican Grill in Maple Grove Closes, Chi-Chi’s To Open at Different Location
Rojo Mexican Grill has closed in Maple Grove following a two-year run at its location in The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the closing of Rojo Maple Grove,” read a Facebook post by the restaurant.
“We’re deeply grateful for the support we’ve received over the last two years, and we want to sincerely thank our incredible guests, team members and the Maple Grove community for all the memories, meals and margaritas shared around our tables,” the post continued.
The closure was expected. Chi-Chi’s Mexican Restaurant will take over, but at a different location that has yet to be determined.
A manager working Tuesday at the closed Maple Grove location told CCX News that the building, located at 12489 Elm Creek Boulevard, isn’t big enough to suit the needs of the future Chi-Chi’s. He added that phones have been “ringing off the hook” since the closure on Sunday.
Michael McDermott, who owned Rojo Mexican Grill, is also behind the Chi-Chi’s venture. McDermott is the son of Marno McDermott, who founded Chi-Chi’s in 1976.
Chi-Chi’s also replaced another Rojo Mexican Grill in The Shops at West End in St. Louis Park. That location has opened.
Chi-Chi’s, which became popular in the 1980s, offers many of the nostalgic favorites, including tortillas made in house, sizzling fajitas and salty margaritas the size of your head.
