Robbinsdale Hosts Tree Sale To Improve Arbor Canopy
Nicknamed “Birdtown,” the city of Robbinsdale is looking to give birds more places to nest by encouraging residents to plant more trees.
The city has partnered with the nonprofit Tree Trust for a low-cost tree sale. Homeowners can buy up to two trees. Japanese tree lilac, bur oak, honey locust and Norway spruce are among the variety of trees offered.
Robbinsdale city forester Stephan Papiz says the city is looking to replace trees lost because of Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer.
“There are a lot of yards in Robbinsdale that are lacking good tree cover,” said Papiz. “This program through Tree Trust allows us to let residents get trees at a local location, pick them up, for a relatively affordable price.”
The cost per tree is $40. The city initially had 100 trees available at the start of the sale and is now down to about 50.
Trees will be available for pickup May 4 and May 6 at the city’s maintenance facility at 4601 Toledo Ave. N.
