Robbinsdale District Staff Make Sweet Potato Comfort Pies
Rose McGee spent a day with staff from Robbinsdale Area Schools and Hennepin Technical College to help them make 94 of her Sweet Potato Comfort Pies. The pies, one for each year that Black History Month has been celebrated, will be served at an event later this month.
“I’m standing here talking to you right now and somebody back there is making the batter. My work here will be done,” laughed Rose McGee.
McGee shares her Sweet Potato Pie recipe with others. She uses the southern pie as a way to provide comfort and talk about race too. She led the Golden Valley community in a pie-making event in January.
The Robbinsdale staff are using the pie-making opportunity as a team-building event. They did the mixing and making at Hennepin Technical College’s professional kitchen. HTC chefs helped teach the staff members too.
“Each of our staff will present pies to their equity champions in the buildings they work in,” explained Tamuriel Grace, one of the staff members participating in the events. “Our staff will serve pie at our Black History Month celebration next Thursday.”
