Robbinsdale Church Distributes Dozens of Free Turkeys, Gift Cards

A Robbinsdale church is helping families in need put food on the table this Thanksgiving. On Wednesday, the Spiritual Church of God distributed free turkeys and gift cards. The giveaway was made possible through a partnership with the Philando Castile Relief Foundation.

It was the 10th year of the giveaway. However, organizers say the need is greater this year due to the pandemic.

“These communities have been decimated by the COVID. We see a lot of people today who haven’t worked for six months,” said Bishop Harding Smith with Spiritual Church of God. “We know times have been dark, times have been difficult. There are people without jobs who don’t know where their next income is coming from.”

The Philando Castile Relief Foundation donated 150 turkeys and $30 Cub and Hy-Vee gift cards to several churches in the metro area.

Spiritual Church of God officials also delivered turkeys to people who are sick or shut-in. Many of the recipients were surprised to see how big some of the turkeys were. Some weighed over 30 pounds.

“We’re so grateful that we could include everyone in this,” said Bishop Smith.
