Robbinsdale Celebrity Baker Marjorie Johnson Gets State Fair Scarecrow
For Jill Hatfield, the goal of coming to the first day of the Minnesota State Fair was to witness a celebrity Robbinsdale baker. Or at least a creative depiction of her.
“We came right to the fair looking for the Marjorie Johnson scarecrow,” laughed Hatfield, a Maple Grove resident. “It looks just like her, 104, still turning in blue ribbons. She’s incredible. Look at all those blue ribbons. I love her.”
A scarecrow of Marjorie Johnson is among the entries of this year’s Crop Art and Scarecrow Exhibit. It was created by Robbinsdale native Kate Richardson.
Richardson wanted the piece to feature Marjorie’s signature red dress and her vast collection of blue ribbons.
“She just celebrated her 104th birthday, which is huge,” said Richardson. “She’s still peppy as ever and loving life that I really thought I want to do something awesome for her and she is our city celebrity, and I thought she’d really enjoy it.”
According to Richardson, Johnson has indeed seen the scarecrow. The celebrity baker called it “cute” and said that Richardson would win the blue ribbon if she was a judge.
You can see the scarecrow for yourself in the Agriculture Horticulture Building.
