Professional Musicians Teach Lessons to Robbinsdale 6th Graders at FAIR School
Sixth graders at the FAIR School in the Robbinsdale School District are learning some valuable musical tips straight from the professionals.
Ginger Commodore and some former members of the musical group, The Sounds of Blackness, visited the FAIR School in Crystal Wednesday afternoon.
The group is conducting a series of concerts and workshops with sixth graders across the district to teach them about African-American contributions to American history, and how today’s popular music came to be.
“So it’s just an opportunity to go into schools, let kids see how it can work, understand that hip-hop didn’t just fall out of a tree,” Commodore said. “There’s a reason why we are at rap and hip-hop right now. It didn’t just happen, so they need to learn what that really means.”
The group also plans to conduct workshops with sixth graders at Robbinsdale Middle School and Plymouth Middle School.
