Poppe Re-elected Osseo Mayor; Cook, Torres Win Council Seats
Voters in Osseo re-elected Mayor Duane Poppe, while also electing two other candidates to serve on the city council.
Poppe defeated Juliana Hultstrom with 61 percent of the vote and 781 total votes, compared to Hultstrom’s 38 percent and 493 votes.
Poppe was first elected mayor in 2012. Mayors in Osseo serve two-year terms, while city council members serve staggered four-year terms.
Hultstrom currently serves on the Osseo City Council and has two years left on her term.
Cook, Torres Win Council Seats
Also on election night, voters selected Mark Cook and Nick Torres to serve four-year terms on the council.
Here are the vote totals:
- Mark Cook 42%, 828 votes
- Mike Danelius 10%, 196 votes
- Preston Kroska 14%, 282 votes
- Nick Torres 32%, 645 votes
Cook is a teacher and girls basketball coach at Maple Grove Senior High School and is owner of The Annabelle House coffee shop in Osseo. He was appointed to the city council in August to fill a vacant seat.
Torres is retired, having worked at Ameriprise Financial as director of risk and strategy. He also is a U.S. Army veteran.
Former Mayor John Hall, who was appointed to city council to fill a vacancy, did not run for election.
