Plymouth’s Fire & Ice Festival Canceled Due to ‘Poor’ Ice Conditions
This year’s winter has been so challenging that it has now wiped out a local winter festival. Officials have canceled the Plymouth Fire & Ice festival, citing the “poor ice conditions” at Parkers Lake.
The festival was scheduled to take place Feb. 4 at Parkers Lake Park.
Officials determined that even with cold weather in the forecast this week, there wouldn’t be enough time for conditions to improve. This winter’s historic snowfall is to blame for the poor ice quality.
The recent snowfall has insulated the ice, creating slush beneath all the snow. DNR officials have also warned about thin ice in some areas.
The Plymouth Fire & Ice festival is an annual draw with a wide variety of winter activities, including recycle bin races, sled dog rides and ice bowling.
