Plymouth Outdoor Teen Challenge Course Now Open
The city of Plymouth has a new park amenity that park officials say is unlike any play area in the city. That’s because it’s meant for kids ages 13 and older.
The Northwest Greenway Challenge Course is located on the east side of Peony Lane, south of 54th Avenue N. It’s also adjacent to the future Northwest Greenway Trailhead.
Sonya Rippe, the city of Plymouth’s parks and forest project coordinator, said the course challenges teens to use their strengths. The park has rope climbs, rock climbs, high steps and a ledge board for hanging and using grip.
Rippe said the manufacturer recommends ages 13 and plus, but younger kids can play on it, if parents allow them.
“It definitely feels like it’s geared toward older but it works well for younger kids too. So it’s a good option for a wide variety of ages I think,” said Abigail Davis, a parent.
Soon families will also be able to enjoy other pieces of the park. Rippe said the challenge course is part of a bigger project to connect trails and preserve natural resources.
“We are on the south side here with the challenge course and on the trail. On the north side we have a shelter building that we’re finishing up. We’re hoping to open that up next spring, early summer,” explained Rippe.
