Plymouth Company Offers Lab Tests to Detect Teen Vaping
E-cigarette vaping use continues to increase among teenagers. The Minnesota Department of Health reports that nearly one in five high school students have used e-cigarettes in the past 30 days.
And as vaping has gone up, so too have visits to a place that can detect if teens are using e-cigarettes.
“We’ve definitely seen an increase in parents bringing in teens,” said Alex Lamkin, owner of Any Lab Test Now in Plymouth. “It is not necessarily one of our most popular tests, but I have definitely in the last six months seen an increase in that test.”
Any Lab Test Now in Plymouth offers three types of tests that can detect vaping or nicotine use. Parents can have their child take a urine test, a hair follicle test, or a simple blood draw.
The hope is that these tests would ultimately act as an e-cigarette deterrent.
“So you’re trusting your teens, but at the same time, if you have the ability to check in on them every once in a while, that teen might go back to their friends like, ‘You know what, my parents test me every once in a while. I’m not gonna do this because of that,'” Lamkin said.
Prices for the tests range from $59 for a urine test to $120 for a hair follicle test.
The hair follicle test can detect nicotine going back about three months.
