Osseo Hires New Full-Time Police Officer
The Osseo Police Department added a new full-time officer to its ranks this week.
Officer Ryan Swanson was approved for hire by the Osseo City Council on May 8. His first day will be May 15.
With the hiring of Swanson, the Osseo Police Department still has two open positions, according to Police Chief Shane Mikkelson.
Swanson previously served as a community service officer with the Corcoran Police Department. He also works as a hospital security guard for Allina Health Services.
According to Mikkelson, Swanson will train for approximately three to four months before conducting patrols on his own.
The police department conducted two interviews, as well as background, psychological and physical checks before offering Swanson the job.
“Ryan was an outstanding choice,” said Osseo City Council Member Juliana Hultstrom.
With National Police Week planned for May 14-20, Council Member Mark Schulz said the city is planning on making a public display of support for police officers.
“In my opinion, it’s through the work that they do that allows us to really enjoy our community and our homes and our safety, and I’ve not for once taken it for granted,” he said.
