Osseo Area Schools Breaks Ground on New $27M Community Learning Center
Leaders in the Osseo Area School District broke ground this week on a new, state-of-the-art community learning center, marking a major milestone for the district’s “Building a Better Future” initiative.
The $27 million project is being constructed on the site of the former Crest View Elementary School. While the old school building is gone, district leaders emphasized that the new center is designed to honor that legacy by continuing to serve as a cornerstone for local families.

A “Landmark” for All Ages
Unlike a traditional K-12 school, the new facility is envisioned as a “hub” for lifelong learning. The district plans to house a diverse range of services under one roof, including:
Early Childhood: Preschool and infant programs.
Specialized Learning: Cultural immersion programs.
Adult Education: Classes for adult learners and career development.
Family Resources: Comprehensive support services for the Brooklyn Park community.
“This is just going to be a landmark center for learning,” said Tanya Prince, Osseo School Board Chair. “From our youngest learners all the way up to our oldest learners as part of the community.”

Leaders from Osseo Area Schools joined children from the district to break ground on the new community learning center on April 7, 2026.
Funded by the Community
The project is a direct result of the “Building a Better Future” plan, which was made possible through voter-approved funding. Superintendent Kim Hiel expressed deep gratitude to the local taxpayers who supported the bond.
“First of all, we have to thank our community for passing that ‘Building a Better Future’ plan,” Hiel said. “For this to happen here is exceptional. It’s building and honoring Crest View Elementary that was here for many years, and so we get to continue to honor them and help our community as well.”
Construction on the Zane Avenue site is expected to take approximately two years. If everything stays on track, the district expects to hold a grand opening in the Spring of 2027.
