Newsmakers: Rep. Klevorn Proposes Task Force on Aging
Rep. Ginny Klevorn (DFL-Plymouth) authored a bill to establish a Legislative Task Force on Aging.
“House File 979 is a bill that would bring forward a task force of nine members from different parts of the state and with different areas of interest to make sure that all communities across Minnesota are vibrant for seniors to live in their golden years,” said Klevorn.
The task force would review a variety of senior issues, ranging from transportation and healthcare to independent living and even workplace concerns.
“Remember many of our seniors are quite vibrant individuals and some of them want to continue to work, so where do they continue to fit into the economic picture,” said Klevorn.
Klevorn says census data is one of the reasons why she is pushing this bill.
“Minnesota is a state of six million people and we have almost one million seniors over the age of 65, so this is definitely an important topic for many people in our state,” said Klevorn. “We don’t know what services are available and working well and what services are lacking.”
Klevorn is optimistic about the bill.
“I am extremely hopeful,” said Klevorn. “More and more seniors started reaching out to me to let me know how important it is to age in community, and not just in their homes. They want to be part of the community and connected to community and what services do they need to make that happen.”
