Newsmakers: Kristin Bahner Explains Bill for ‘Common Sense’ Reform
Rep. Kristin Bahner (DFL-Maple Grove) is working on a bill this legislative session that she says has common sense at the heart of it.
The bill tackles modifying prior authorization and coverage of health care services. Bahner says HF3578 mostly applies to preventative health care measures.
“This bill is really about common sense reforms to make sure people are getting the care they deserve,” said Bahner. “Unfortunately we’ve come to a place in time where prior authorization has been used more and more as a barrier and or a gatekeeper to care rather than where it makes the most sense. This bill targets specifically those areas where there’s a high degree of acceptance for prior authorization, where more likely than not an individual would receive that care and would be authorized to get that care.”
