New Mural Takes Shape in Downtown Osseo
Downtown Osseo is getting a new splash of color.
Artists from Lulujuju, a Minneapolis-based creative design collective, are painting a mural along the building that houses SheK Lash and Glow Studio, located at 240 Central Avenue.
SheK’s owners, Sheila Johnson and Kristen Honts, worked with Lulujuju on the design.
“They wanted something that would represent the spirit of celebration and bring some liveliness to the neighborhood and some color,” said Lulu Danzig, one of the artists painting the mural. “And also inspire people to take photos, interacting, and get people outside.”
The mural includes images of peonies and eucalyptus, along with the phrase, ‘It was all a dream.’
“Those peonies and eucalyptus are kind of a staple in their branding,” Danzig said. “And then it’s also just a message to be interpreted at your own will, hoping that it is a good dream, but looking back at anything that happens in life and really celebrating that kind of dreamlike state of how things can be.”
Danzing is a client of SheK’s. She says that the owners have followed her career and have always wanted to work on something together. After receiving unanimous approval from the Osseo City Council to paint a mural on the side of the building, that time finally came.
“Osseo has been unbelievable to us,” Danzig said. “We’ve been all over the world doing murals, and I don’t think we’ve ever had such great feedback and hospitality like we have here, so we’re very honored.”
Osseo’s First Mural
The Osseo project comes with another distinct honor. This is the first mural painted alongside a building in downtown Osseo.
“We had no idea,” Danzig said, when told about the news. “That is an honor that we will always treasure, and we’re so grateful.”
Weather permitting, Danzig says the mural should be complete by Wednesday, June 24.
