Charges Filed in Valentine’s Day Attack on Osseo High School Student
Charges were filed Tuesday against a Maplewood teen accused of entering Osseo High School without permission and attacking a student.
The incident happened on Friday, Valentine’s Day, just after 2 p.m. at school dismissal time, the charges revealed.
Ty Lara-Boclair is charged with third-degree riot, a gross misdemeanor charge; as well as fifth-degree assault, trespassing on school property and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanor offenses.
According to the criminal complaint:
Lara-Boclair walked into the school with two others through an unlocked door as students began leaving for the day. The other two with Lara-Boclair were a juvenile and an unidentified third suspect.
“None of these three people are students at this school,” the complaint read. “They did not otherwise have permission or lawful authority to be present on school property.”
The group went to a hallway near the cafeteria and main gym where they found the victim, who was punched multiple times.
“The attack was swift and aggressive,” the complaint said. “The force of the altercation led to the group colliding into an athletics display poster, shattering the glass frame onto the floor.”
The complaint said school staff intervened to break up the attack, which the complaint described as “unprovoked.” Lara-Boclair attempted to flee the scene, but was apprehended by school staff and law enforcement officers.
The victim, a student of Osseo Senior High School, sustained minor injuries, “but was visibly shaken by the unprovoked attack,” the charging documents said.
Further investigation by Maple Grove police suggested the attack was premeditated. Evidence, including social media exchanges, indicated that the juvenile was allegedly “seeking retribution for an alleged slight” involving the victim, accusing him of past bullying incidents.
