New Hope Police K-9 Team Receives Top National Honor
New Hope police Sgt. Miguel Robles and his K-9 partner, Drago, recently received the National Patrol Case of the Year award by the United State Police Canine Association.
The honor recognizes outstanding work by K-9 teams across the country under challenging circumstances.
In this particular case in February 2022, the New Hope team played a significant role in arresting a suspect that had fired shots at another officer.
According to police, Robles responded to a call about a pursuit of a vehicle that resulted in a crash. A suspect involved in the crash fled and fired shots at the initial responding officer, police said.
Upon arrival, Robles and Drago set up a perimeter to begin a search for the suspect. That search led to the suspect’s arrest. The K-9 team also helped direct a second K-9 team to recover the firearm.
Sgt. Robles has been with the New Hope Police Department since 2007, serving as a K-9 officer for nine years. Robles was promoted to sergeant in 2022 and continues to oversee the department’s K-9 division.
The New Hope K-9 team accepted the award last month during the United State Police Canine Association’s K-9 National Field Trials in Foley, Ala.
