New Hope Council Approves Reece Bertholf as City Manager
Reece Bertholf was confirmed this week as New Hope’s city manager.
The New Hope City Council unanimously approved his contract on May 8. His first day on the job will be June 12.
New Hope has been without a permanent city manager since longtime City Manager Kirk McDonald retired in June 2022.
Since McDonald retired, Police Chief Tim Hoyt has been serving as acting city manager.
Hoyt told the council that Bertholf is “ready to hit the ground running.”
Previously, Bertholf was deputy city manager for the city of Beaufort, South Carolina.
He was one of six candidates to interview for the position, and one of 33 to apply.
“This is a success and a win for New Hope so I’m very excited to be able to support this,” said New Hope City Council Member John Elder.
Bertholf’s starting pay will be $160,000.
“He was really impressed with the meetings he had with staff and how encouraging they were and how supportive they were as well as the council, so [I’m] really looking forward to him, and I think he’s going to be a big improvement to the city,” said Mayor Kathi Hemken.
