New Hope Approves $600K for Baseball Field Improvements
The city of New Hope has approved plans for significant improvements to its signature baseball field.
The field, known as Lighted Field at 8810 49th Avenue North, is the only full-sized baseball diamond operated by the city. It was retrofitted with lights last year.
Now the city is taking steps to make other improvements, which include reshaping and resodding the infield grass, fixing a portion of the outfield, and rebuilding the pitcher’s mound. A new batting cage at a cost of $80,000 and full fencing replacement for $123,000 would also be done.
The project has a total estimated cost of $638,000. The cost will come out of the city’s park infrastructure fund. A $10,000 grant award from the Twins Community Fund will also go toward the project.
The city council approved awarding the project to New Look Contracting for $483,000 to do the work. New Look was the lowest bid. The company has done previous work for the city as a subcontractor on the city hall project.
The work is expected to begin in mid-August and be completed by next spring.
