Nautical Bowls Serves Up Superfood Meals on the Go
Satisfying hunger can happen in a number of different ways.
But at Nautical Bowls, the fast-expanding franchise is banking on the idea that people will want to fill their bellies with what they call “healthy, superfood, smoothie bowls.”
Nautical Bowls are similar to acai bowls, just with more flavors to serve as a base.
“And so it’s a fruit base, and then we top it with healthy toppings such as granola, fresh peanut butter, almond butter, fresh fruit, fresh superfood toppings,” said Bryant Bohlig, co-owner of the Nautical Bowls on Wedgewood Lane in Maple Grove, which opened in October. “It’s a really good meal replacement. It’s fast. Our goal is 90 seconds or less.”
The first location opened in 2018 near Lake Minnetonka, hence the nautical theme.
The Big Island Bowl consists of Blue Majik, Açaí, Pitaya, Mango, Coconut, Vanilla Chia, Granola, Strawberries, Goji Berries and Hemp Seeds.
The Wedgewood Lane location is one of the first to pop up since Nautical Bowls decided to franchise. And so far, it’s been a big hit.
The idea is a quick meal that doesn’t compromise your healthy lifestyle.
“I’m vegetarian and I’m pretty much vegan too,” said Ceci Boche, a customer. “So I really like smoothie bowls, and they’re king of my go-to snack and breakfast, that kind of thing. So I usually feel really fresh and healthy when I eat them.”
If you’re a new customer, they suggest ordering one of 10 different signature bowls, featuring toppings and combinations that can make the bowl taste either fruity or savory.
You also have the option to create your own bowl.
“It’s very, very educational with new customers, every time,” Bohlig said. “Just kind of patience and taking the time and kind of tailoring what they want.”
So if you’re looking for something refreshing that isn’t going to make you feel uncomfortably full, Nautical Bowls may just do the trick.
“Nice, refreshing, and just cools you off,” Boche said.
