Northwest Metro Hosts Inaugural Minnesota Lumpia Festival
One of the most popular dishes in the Filipino culture is getting its own festival this weekend and it’s happening right here in the northwest metro.
On Saturday, Champlin’s Mississippi Crossings Event Center is hosting the inaugural Minnesota Lumpia Festival.
Lumpia, which are deep-fried spring rolls, are a staple of Filipino cuisine.
Josie Schuette, owner of Filipino restaurant Ku•ma•in in Champlin, and local realtor Vera Jones organized the festival to bring people together and learn more about other cultures.
“We wanted to put together something that would share a little bit about the Filipino culture, our food.” Schuette said. “Especially in this area, the northwest suburbs, because there’s really no exposure to that here.”
The event is on Saturday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There’s also going to be a lumpia-eating contest. Josie’s advice for participants is to not eat beforehand.
