Minneapolis Man Sentenced for Twin Cities Carjackings That Included Maple Grove
A Minneapolis man is headed to prison for his role in a violent string of Twin Cities carjackings that included Maple Grove.
Jeremiah Ironrope, 25, and co-defendant Krisanne Benjamin, 28, both admitted to a carjacking in Maple Grove as well as others around the metro area. In the Maple Grove case, prosecutors say the convicted suspects physically assaulted a victim before stealing that person’s vehicle back on July 26, 2020.
Both Ironrope and Benjamin were arrested after an Aug. 28, 2020 carjacking in Richfield. In that case Ironrope approached a driver with a sawed-off shotgun. The incident led to a high-speed police chase after the Minnesota State Patrol used GPS data to track the stolen vehicle.
“Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Ironrope drove away at a high rate of speed, while cutting across multiple lanes of traffic, swerving between cars and driving through red lights,” court documents showed.
U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz sentenced Ironrope this week to more than 15 years in prison.
Both Ironrope and Benjamin pleaded guilty in September 2021 to several carjackings including the Maple Grove case.
“This disturbing wave of carjackings throughout the Twin Cities is eroding our overall sense of safety and security,” said U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger after the sentencing. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office is working in close coordination with all levels of law enforcement to bring this trend to an end.”
