Maple Grove Police Warn of Uptick in Home Burglaries, Thefts from Vehicles
It’s an anti-theft warning heard from local police departments all summer. Now there’s one from Maple Grove police alerting residents to lock their vehicles and shut garage doors.
Maple Grove police report a significant increase in thefts from vehicles. They’ve had 46 such cases since July 1, with 29 of them occurring west of Interstate 94 and Interstate 494. Police say more than 80 percent of the cases involved unlocked vehicles.
Officers say the thefts from vehicles have also led to an uptick in residential burglaries. That’s because in some of the incidents, thieves gained access to homes either with a garage door opener left in a vehicle or garage doors left open overnight, police said.
