Maple Grove Man Launched Blood Drive to Honor Grandson
Mike Webster’s grandson, Barrett, is battling a rare form of cancer that requires chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Webster decided to host a blood drive to help raise awareness for the need for blood.
“I decided if he can go through what he’s going through, all of this pain, then I can try something and I thought ‘blood drive,” said Webster, who lives in Maple Grove.
The Red Cross generally expects 20-30 people to come out for a first time blood drive, but Webster’s blood drive brought out 85 people. Webster says 66 of those donors were donating blood for the first time.
“A lot of them said this was easier than I thought and I’ll do this again,” said Webster. “I’m very humbled by the response I got from our community, our friends and our family. It was humbling and I can’t wait to do it again.”
Webster plans to organize more, and says his grandson Barrett will thank you.
