Hindu Temple of Minnesota to go Solar
The Hindu Temple of Minnesota is a step closer to becoming more energy efficient.
The Maple Grove City Council approved a conditional use permit for the temple to build a solar array on their property. Arrays are typically an allowed use, but the nonprofit had to get a permit because the array will be located in a flood plain. The size of the array will be about an acre.
“Today we’re requesting a unique facility for this temple, essentially renewable energy so we don’t have to use the fossil fuels to electrify this facility,” said Puttaiah “Byron” Byraiah, who represented the Temple before the city council.
A temple spokesperson says the array will not be visible to people off the property. The Hindu Temple of Minnesota hopes this could eventually help them meet all of their energy needs.
