Hennepin Technical College Virtual Career Fair Offers Opportunity for Job Seekers
Searching for a job during a global pandemic is challenging. However, Hennepin Technical College is trying to change that. The Brooklyn Park college is sponsoring a virtual career fair for students, alumni, and community members. The event is Feb. 4 from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. However, job seekers need to upload their resume ahead of time.
“The event is using software that allows employers to search for candidates, but only if students have their materials ready and visible,” explained Stephen Harper, career coordinator at Hennepin Technical College.
The software allows job seekers and employers to connect like they are doing a face-to-face interview. About 50 companies are participating in the virtual job fair.
Harper says there are some things job seekers can do to stand out. He suggests networking with people in your field. He also recommends having a 30-second elevator speech to promote yourself.
“Think about what skills you have and where you would like to go in your future career,” said Harper.
