Hennepin County Approves $8M to Expand Maple Grove Police Training Center
The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved spending more than $8 million to expand the North Metro Regional Public Safety Training Facility in Maple Grove.
The facility is used by more than 20 law enforcement agencies and the upgrades will also include space for de-escalation techniques and defensive tactics. Some of the training that was considered with the upgrades included virtual reality scenarios.
The building is also used by the public.
Hennepin County and Maple Grove will jointly operate the facility. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.
Local law enforcement and lawmakers have pushed for several years for the upgrades. See that story here.
