Golden Valley Updates Rules for Rental Bicycles, Scooters
Bicycle-sharing kicked off in Golden Valley last year, when Lime made bikes and scooters available to rent through a smartphone app.
The program worked out so well that Golden Valley officials wanted to bring it back for a second year.
In April, the city council approved a new set of rules that requires vendors, such as Lime, to purchase a license from the city before making bicycles and scooters available for rent. The rules also limit the total number of available rental bicycles and scooters in the city to 200.
“These are available, but we definitely want people to be safe,” said Marc Nevinski, Golden Valley’s physical development director. “So do read the instructions and make sure that you’re operating the vehicle safely, and operate them respectfully.”
Golden Valley will only allow two companies to operate in the city. No word yet on when the bicycles and scooters will be available for rent.
