Golden Valley Names Three Police Chief Finalists
The city of Golden Valley has selected three finalists for its open police chief position. The public is invited to meet the candidates this Thursday evening.
The finalists are:
John Franklin, who has nearly 30 years of experience working with the Chicago Police Department. He most recently spent 18 months as chief in Jacksonville, Arkansas, north of Little Rock.
Virgil Green is a former police chief for departments in Oklahoma, and most recently in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, which is about 70 miles southwest of Memphis, Tenn. Green also became the first African-American to run for Oklahoma County Sheriff, losing by a mere 700 votes in 2017. He currently serves as the deputy police chief/major for Tulsa public schools, Oklahoma’s second largest school district.
Scott Nadeau is currently the interim police chief in Golden Valley. Nadeau also served more than 20 years for the Brooklyn Center Police Department, starting in 1987. After leaving Brooklyn Center, Nadeau became chief in Columbia Heights and then later in Maplewood.
Residents can meet the three finalists this Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brookview Golden Valley.
Four different interview panels selected the three finalists. The panels consisted of city staff, council members, commissioners and community members. The city signed a $30,000 contract with El Paso, Tex.-based AB Strategic Security Group to assist in the nationwide search.
