Golden Valley Lawmaker Sponsors Bill for New State Flag
Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL-Golden Valley) says the Minnesota state flag is “outdated” and “offensive.”
He is the chief author of HF 274, which would create a commission to redesign the official state flag and state seal. There is a companion bill in the Senate. Freiberg attempted to put the measure in the State Government and Appropriations Bill last spring.
One proposed design is the “North Star Flag.”
A commission will be tasked with coming up with design ideas, and a new flag recommendation is expected to happen by next year.
