First Student Bus Company To Lay Off 125 Workers, Close Plymouth Facility
First Student, Minnesota’s largest school bus provider, announced layoffs and a closure of its facility in Plymouth, according to a notice filed Thursday with the state.
The WARN Act notice filed by the company says approximately 125 layoffs will be laid off as part of the closure.
According to the notice, the closure of the Plymouth facility, located at 15625 32nd Ave. N., was due to the “unexpected” loss of a contract with the Wayzata School District.
“The loss of this significant contract is anticipated to impact our business not merely for a short period, but now and for the foreseeable future,” said Jared Reid, senior location manager, in a letter to the state.
The layoffs and facility closure will occur at the end of July, the notice said.
Positions impacted by the layoffs include drivers, dispatchers, full-time technicians and managers.
The federal WARN Act requires employers to provide 60 days notice of mass layoffs.
