Empty Bowls Helps With Growing Need, Plans New Events
The Empty Bowls fundraiser planned each spring by volunteers and Robbinsdale Area Schools benefits PRISM and NEAR food shelves, which are currently seeing unprecedented need.
“The need keeps growing,” said Sharon Pleimling, one of the volunteer co-chairs for Empty Bowls. “We are seeing people that have never been to a food shelf before. It’s important to raise the money so they can keep handing out food as fast as they can.”
Traditionally at Empty Bowls, people come together to create bowls at community events. Then, the bowls are sold and participants partake in a community meal.
This year people can purchase a bowl on March 1 at Pilgrim Lane Elementary School and participate in a virtual fundraiser on March 2.
Organizers hope to raise at least $18,000.
