Divers Search Pond Near Hortman Home
It’s been almost a week since an assassin targeted lawmakers and killed Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.
On Friday, neighbors witnessed and heard more police activity.
A dive team searched for evidence in the pond of Edinburgh USA golf course behind the Hortman home.
“Just a horrible, horrible tragedy,” said Brooklyn Park resident Chuck Holtan, who lives nearby.
“It was a helicopter I saw leaving my house, and I knew it was right over this area, so I figured that something was going on,” he said.
Chris Wood’s normal running route takes him by the Hortman home, which has now been fenced off.
“It’s completely sobering,” said Wood. “I knew when I was going to run today, I was going to run by Melissa’s house. I didn’t know everyone was going to be here. I was just going to stop and say a quick prayer and move on because it’s absolutely tragic.”

Fencing has been erected around Hortman home.
Taha Abuisnaineh has lived across the street from the Hortmans for about 20 years.
He said hopes the investigation leads to justice for a neighbor he remembers fondly.
“She wave her hand, say ‘Hi, good morning, good evening,’ the same thing we do to her. She is a very nice lady, very kind,” said Abuisnaineh.
A Brooklyn Park police spokesperson told CCX News that Friday’s search was done as part of a “thorough” investigation.
As of this publishing, there was no word if anything was found.
