Crystal Swears in New Police Chief
The city of Crystal swore in a new police chief this week.
Chief Brian Hubbard took the oath of office at Tuesday’s city council meeting. He replaces former chief Stephanie Revering, who retired last month.
“Brian is an innovative, forward-thinking leader who is people-centered and committed to the mission of the Crystal Police Department, which is to serve with compassion, integrity and professionalism,” said Revering, who spoke at Tuesday’s meeting.
Hubbard started in law enforcement in 2004, first serving with the city of Edina. He came to the Crystal Police Department in 2018 when he was hired to become the city’s deputy chief.
The new chief told the story of how the community has given so much to him.
“I’m proud to be a kid that grew up in the Kentucky Lane apartments here in Crystal with many of the labels that might be considered cards stacked against me at an early age,” said Hubbard.
“Because of the work of a mom who gave me her very best, a neighborhood of other adults here in Crystal who cared about me, a school system that pushed me to be the best I can be, and a community that embraced our successes, I was able to get to a spot where many years later, I continue to be given this opportunity to serve in this same community,” he said.
The city also swore in a new deputy chief. Pete Underthun will take over the role after serving as commander of the West Metro SWAT Team.

New Crystal Deputy Chief Pete Underthun took the oath of office during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
Underthun started with the Crystal Police Department in 2003.
“It has been evident over the last several years that Deputy Chief Underthun would be a fantastic leader for our department,” said Revering.
