Crystal Church Recovers After Two Separate Fires During Holidays
A Crystal church is recovering after two separate small fires broke out around Christmas. Fans are going non-stop at Cornerstone Church in Crystal to get rid of the smoke smell. On Christmas day, a fire broke out in one of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units on the roof. Someone driving by saw smoke and called 9-1-1. The next morning, a roof repairman spotted another fire in another HVAC unit while doing work.
“We had the HVAC company out yesterday, along with insurance adjusters and fire inspectors, they have looked over everything,” explained Cornerstone Church Pastor Jeremy Bratcher. “We have fire more units on top of the roof, and everything there is safe and secure. They are investigating some causes, so I can’t do into a lot of information, but we think we know what caused the fire.”
The church leader says they are fortunate, there is no structural damage, no interior damage, and no one was hurt. He also says this could have been a much worse situation if it weren’t for the good Samaritan and the roofer.
But Cornerstone Church officials say they are more concerned about helping people impacted by the drake building fire in Minneapolis on Christmas. More than 200 people were displaced from that fire, which houses homeless people in Hennepin County.
“We’re hoping to partner with other churches. Bethlehem Baptist, which has been leading a large part of that charge is part of our same conferences of churches, so how do we partner with them, how do we extend care out that way, and extend good to people who really needed it, right now,” said Bratcher.
Cornerstone Church Crystal says services are still on for this Sunday.
