City Manager: Plymouth Could See Home Teardowns Increase
The city of Edina saw numerous housing teardowns several years ago.
Could the city of Plymouth be next?
Plymouth City Manager Dave Callister believes so.
“I do think we’re going to see in the residential area, we’re going to see some teardowns,” said Callister during a presentation Tuesday on city finances.
Callister said the city’s quality of life and desirable schools will contribute to demand for families to move in and build new homes. However, the city doesn’t have much available land left to build new housing, a reason Callister foresees potential teardowns.
According to city permit data, the number of new homes built has fallen due to land availability.
Only 99 new single-family homes were built in Plymouth in 2024. That’s compared to 354 in 2017.
The development of the former Hollydale golf course, approved in 2021, was the last major project the city has seen for single-family homes.
The median sales price of a home in Plymouth last month was $525,000.
