Charter School Moving into Brooklyn Center’s Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church
A charter school has plans to move into a Catholic Church in Brooklyn Center.
Eagle Ridge Academy got approval on April 27 from the Brooklyn Center City Council to open at Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Saint Alphonsus operated a school at the church from 1959 until its closure in 2024.
Declining enrollment was cited as one of the factors in closing the school.
Meanwhile, Eagle Ridge was founded in 2004. The Minnetonka-based charter school servers 1,533 students.
The school plans to start serving 138 students in kindergarten and first grade, then eventually expand to serve 350 students as old as 4th grade.
School officials told the city council they see a large potential base of students in the area.
“We’re excited to move to Brooklyn Center,” said Eagle Ridge CEO Jas Ulbrich. “Our board was very explicit in coming to Brooklyn Center. We wanted to be able to provide another high quality public education for students.”
