Brooklyn Park Resident Raises Money for Foster Dogs, Animal Rescue
A Brooklyn Park resident got a huge response from the community when she posted on social media about needing pet supplies.
Katie McGroarty volunteers at Northern Lakes Rescue, based in Pequot Lakes. McGroarty also fosters dogs.
Pet donations McGroarty recieved from her Amazon wish list.
“I had about 9 to 10 garbage bags full of stuffed animals. I made one of my own Amazon wish list and the response was, I got a ton of stuff for my wish list,” said McGroarty.
The foster pet provider received donations such as chew toys, stuffed animals and beds. She said there’s a growing need for pet supplies especially because there’s high demand for pets during the global pandemic.
“It’s huge. We are a 501(c); we run our rescues off of donations and adoptive fees. While we have a lot of adoptive fees because we’ve been adopting out more, those fees go to things like vetting and the transport van and stuff like that,” said McGroarty.
Northern Lakes Rescue is trying to raise $10,500 to buy its own van so the nonprofit can transport animals from Texas. So far, the rescue has raised $4,500. Currently, the nonprofit rents vans which will cost more in the long run.
