Brooklyn Center’s ‘Mr. Community Service,’ Tom Shinnick, Dies at 85
Tom Shinnick, a longtime volunteer in Brooklyn Center, passed away last month at the age of 85. Shinnick was a Brooklyn Center Hall of Fame inductee for his many contributions to the city. The volunteer efforts included the Brooklyn Center Lions, Brooklyn Center Little League, Brooklyn Historical Society and others.
A retrospective on Shinnick’s life was in the Star Tribune on Saturday. Read it here.
Shinnick would be a regular fixture every year in Brooklyn Center’s parades, sometimes driving a historic red fire engine. He was also a former school board member and founder of the Brooklyn Center Business Administration.
Shinnick’s son, Dan, would call his parents “Mr. and Mrs. Community Service” for their dedication.
