Brooklyn Center Police Release Officer’s Bodycam Footage
Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon released bodycam footage from the officer involved in Sunday afternoon’s shooting. Gannon said the release of the footage this early is “unprecedented.”
The video initially shows two officers approaching the vehicle, one on each side.
A Black officer approached the driver side and attempted to arrest 20-year-old Daunte Wright. Then, a scuffle ensued.
That’s when we hear a female officer yell ‘Taser! Taser!’ Following that, a single gunshot was fired as Wright tried to drive away.

“As I watched the video and listened to the officer’s commands, it is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their taser, but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” Gannon said. “This appears to me, from what I viewed and the officer’s reaction and distress immediately after, that this was an accidental discharge.”
The incident has caused deep pain within the community. Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott was asked how he viewed the incident.
“We cannot afford to make mistakes that lead to the loss of life of other people in our profession,” Elliott said. “And so I do fully support releasing the officer of her duties.”
Chief Gannon, meanwhile, says the officer, who was a senior member of the department, will get due process.
