Brooklyn Center Police Investigate Carjacking and Robbery of Uber Driver
Brooklyn Center police are investigating a Monday night carjacking and robbery of an Uber driver.
According to Brooklyn Center police, the Uber driver picked up three male customers. At some point after everybody got in, two of the males held guns to the driver, police said.
Police say the Uber driver was forced to go to multiple ATMs and withdraw money. A short time later in the 7200 block of Major Avenue, the robbers ordered the victim out his vehicle and took off in the victim’s car, police said.
“The victim used a random homeowner’s phone to call 911,” said Brooklyn Center police Cmdr. Garett Flesland in a statement to CCX News.
The 911 call was made at about 8 p.m. Monday, police said. Shortly after responding to the call, police located the victim’s vehicle unoccupied in Brooklyn Park.
“The victim was physically uninjured and the loss is a cell phone and over $1,000 in cash,” said Flesland.
Police did not provide descriptions or approximate ages of the robbers.
Brooklyn Center police continue to investigate the case with help from the Hennepin County crime lab. As of Wednesday morning, no arrests had been made.
The incident followed a case last month in which two males assaulted and carjacked an elderly man at a Brooklyn Center gas station. The victim’s vehicle in that case was found unoccupied in Andover.
