Brooklyn Center Police Arrest New Hope Man in Fatal Stabbing
Man Fatally Stabbed Outside Brooklyn Center Apartment Complex
Brooklyn Center police are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Tuesday night outside an apartment complex.
Police were called at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a fight in the parking lot of the Twin Lake North Apartments, located in the 4500 block of 58th Avenue N.
Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the parking lot unconscious with a stab wound. Officers provided first aid and the man was rushed to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the man, age 37, had not been released as of Wednesday afternoon.
According to Brooklyn Center police, officers learned a suspect had fled the area after the stabbing. Attempts to locate him with a police K9, a State Patrol helicopter and several responding agencies were initially unsuccessful.
After the search ended, police say they received a 911 call of an “unwanted party inside of a building.” Officers responded and arrested the suspect.
“We are not seeking additional suspects and this is not a random incident as it appears the victim and suspect have a prior connection,” said Cmdr. Tony Gruenig in a press release to CCX News.
The suspect is a 28-year-old New Hope man. Jail records indicate he’s being held without bail for probable cause murder. Charges in the case were pending Wednesday afternoon.
Besides Brooklyn Center police, law enforcement agencies that assisted in the case include Crystal, New Hope and Robbinsdale police, the Maple Grove K9 unit, Metro Transit, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
