Brooklyn Center EDA Votes Against Carvana Land Sale
Carvana proposed a futuristic building resembling a car-vending machine on city-owned land in Brooklyn Center.
But on Monday the Brooklyn Center Economic Development Authority voted against selling the parcel to Carvana for $2 million. EDA members said the facility would not offer repair services on site, which is required for dealerships in Brooklyn Center.
EDA members, who are city council members, also expressed concern that the request was for just over 3 acres of land on the 5-acre site. Others expressed concern that if the business closes, it might be difficult to redevelop the property with a multi-story car vending machine on it.
EDA members voted 3-2 not to sell the land, with April Graves and Marquita Butler voting for the sale.
