Axe Throwing Brings New Excitement to Maple Grove’s Broadway Pizza
After a two-year absence, one of Minnesota’s most beloved pizza chains has returned to Maple Grove.
This new venue at the corner of Main Street and Arbor Lakes Parkway marks a return for the Broadway Bar & Pizza name after a former location on Elm Creek Boulevard closed two years ago.
“For us, it was super exciting to bring it back,” said Matt Pohlkamp, the general manager of Maple Grove’s Broadway Bar & Pizza.
He says when they acquired this space, they completely gutted the inside.
“You know, for those who have been to the Claddaugh, who came to Max’s on Main, they knew what it looked like,” Pohlkamp said. “It was dark, it was dungee, it really still had that Irish pub field even when it was Max’s on Main.”
Their goal was to open the space up and give it more of a neighborhood bar feel, where people could bring their families and enjoy one of their thin crust, square cut pizzas.
“Our classic deluxe is our No. 1 pizza,” Pohlkamp said. “Comes with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions and green peppers. By far our best-selling pizza we have.”
While this is certainly a great place to enjoy some food and drinks and watch the game, this location has a little something extra.
Food, Drinks – And Axe Throwing
Under the same roof is Broadaxe axe throwing. This is the first of the 13 Broadway Pizza locations to offer such an activity.
A dedicated axe master walks participants through how it all works and teaches them proper throwing techniques.
After all, the hope is that people enjoy it so much that they’ll come back for more.
“It’s really that creating that atmosphere of something just to do,” Pohlkamp said. “You know we’ll have the axe throwing, we’ll have sports playing. We have just a little bit of everything for everybody.”
The building that houses the new Broadway Pizza has experienced its fair share of turnover. However, staff members are confident that this restaurant has staying power.
“Everybody’s very excited about it,” Pohlkamp said.
Broadway Pizza’s axe throwing experience is $40 per person and requires reservations, which can be made online.
