Robbinsdale Offers Home Improvement Grants
Homeowners in Robbinsdale may now qualify for home improvement grants through the city’s Economic Development Authority and the Minneapolis-based Center for Energy and Environment, which offers similar programs in New Hope and Crystal.
“Robbinsdale has a lot of houses that are in good shape, but they’re modest houses,” said the city’s community development director, Rick Pearson. “We want to see people bring their homes up to modern standards: remodeling, expanding, providing additional bedrooms, updating kitchens and essentially continuing to make their houses their dream houses. We don’t want to lose people to the outer suburbs.”
Goal is to Help Homeowners Stay in Robbinsdale
Pearson said the goal is to help along projects that homeowners may already want to do. CEE will provide up to $8,000 per homeowner per year and cover 20% of projects that are at least $4,000 in total cost.
“The idea is to provide an incentive but not cover the overall cost,” he said. “Perhaps expand the scope of the improvements, maybe give them some more options that they might not have been able to afford.”
Homeowners can begin to apply for the grants now, Pearson said.
“People love Robbinsdale, and it gives people the ability to stay in Robbinsdale,” he said.
